Here’s a nice 2007 piece on taxi language in South Africa. If you want to catch one of the minibus taxis which usually jam South Africa’s roads and raise your blood pressure and heart rate beyond healthy parameters, than you have to know the difficult signs.
It is, by the way, interesting to hear how other car drivers complain about the behaviour of taxi drivers: The would drive rude and would not obey the rules. It might not be a surprise: It’s the same with the passenger cars.
At the moment, I'm translating my content to English. So please don't be surprised if you find a lot of older German stuff in the English version of the blog yet. The translation will take a while.
In addition, please take into account that Ali's Africa Blog is written by a German. My texts may sound Germish but that's no reason to forget the good manners. I'm already working on that issue.

Es ist unglaublich, wie viele interkulturellen Unterschiede es in allen Sphären des Lebens gibt: Und ich glaube auch, dass man sogar in Afrika von Land zu Land anders ein Taxi bestellt. Ähnlich ist es auch in Europa: Das bei uns übliche “Daumen-hoch-winden” wird in manchen Ländern als vulgär und beleidigend empfunden, sodass es für den Hitchhiker ganz schön gefährlich wird…
